Senator Kay Hagan, leading by following.

When the time came to opine regarding the Presidents proposition that the United States Government offer its citizens a Health-care plan, our freshman Senator Kay Hagan came out against it. Although, being all for Health-care reform, a public option allowing all residents to join a government heath insurance plan didn’t sound like a good idea to her. Senator Hagans gut reaction was to oppose such a massive increase in government responsibility and financial liability. Then, after the rallies and slogans of the loud minority, espousing our absolute “need” for publicly funded health-care, Senator Hagan is now “leading the fight” (according to her latest commercial)

Her original stance on the issue of reforming health-care was tackling and fixing the broken parts of our free market system (kayhagan.com/issues/healthyfamilies), now, however, she has sided with the argument that a government plan can compete with private industry and the consumer will prevail, although the Jury is still out on the cost/benefit.

This is certainly not a waffle. The brand new Senator is still figuring out her positions and where her loyalties lie. Over her short career, she’s only received 141k in campaign contributions from the Heath Care industry (via opensecrets.org) which is a relatively small about verses what she has received from other industries. She shouldn’t be accused of pandering to Insurance Companies. Although the House recently passed their version of the reform bill, the recent revelations from the Congressional Budget office and the pushback from Republicans and “Blue Dog democrats means that the debate continues. We’ll see if Senator Hagan’s position bringing up the rear on this issue puts her at the best vantage point to lead again, should the prevailing support reverse.

The way it seems is everyone is at odds with any plan that is propose. I have yet to see anything better than the Presidents plan for so many arguments to come against it.
